The Miami Science Museum features national traveling exhibitions, an educational Wildlife Center with rare birds of prey and reptiles, and fascinating Planetarium shows. We are also an educational institution highly recognized for the training of teachers and students to better understand science as it relates to our everyday living. There are live science demonstrations and theater shows daily with a museum store on-site.

The Miami Science Museum Planetarium opened its doors to the public on November 4, 1966 and has entertained and educated children of all ages about astronomy and the wonders of the night sky ever since. The Planetarium, home to Jack Horkheimer’s Star Gazer, the world’s first and only weekly television series on naked-eye astronomy, houses a 65-foot diameter domed projection screen with 231 seats. At the heart of the Planetarium is a SPITZ “Space Transit Planetarium” star projector, which is capable of accurately reproducing the stars and planets as seen from anywhere on Earth at any time during the year. Also, the Space Transit Planetarium at the Miami Science Museum has been producing laser shows since 1975 and employs some of the latest laser technology displayed on their 4-story high and 7-story wide domes. Laser shows happen every first Friday of the month.

The Miami Science Museum also features a Wildlife Center, which is an educational and entertainment facility housing over 170 reptiles and birds of prey that have been rescued and rehabilitated. And the Museum Store features a variety of unique science, earth and space-related items that help bring the amazing, wondrous world around us to life.

The Miami Science Museum is centrally located via U.S. Highway 1 and the Metrorail’s Vizcaya Station. Come spend the day enjoying the stars, the critters, and the science. Or, stop by on the first Friday of every month and be dazzled by the rotating laser shows. Group discounts available.
